Anyone
involved in ANPR is probably already aware of the recent changes to PNC and the
introduction of the new Police Interest Reports “Action” and “Reaction”.
Of
particular interest to ANPR Policing is “PNC Action” since it highlights
vehicles which require a specific Police action. The new reports went live in
June 2008 and will eventually replace the use of the old “PNC Information”
report.
“PNC
Action” vehicles also appear in the PNC Extract file which remains widely used
by ANPR systems. Initially, “PNC Action” reports in the Extract file were
indistinguishable from “PNC Stolen” reports. However since December 2008, a new
version of the PNC Extract file has been made available which allows “PNC
Action” reports to be identified using a new unique report code.
The new
version of the PNC extract is available on request from the National Policing
Improvement Agency (pnc.service-desk@npia.pnn.police.uk)
but this should only be used when the relevant software patches for BOF2 and
all ANPR systems have been installed.
To support
the PNC changes the QRO team have written additional functionality into version
6.12a and higher of the QRO Check-IT ANPR software. They can also supply a
simple reconfiguration tool that will add all the settings necessary to
correctly show “PNC Action” alerts from the PNC Extract or from live PNC
Fast-Track checks.
