Redcorn Productivity Soars with ANPR

The prevention of crime comes in many forms; one of which is removing untaxed, illegally parked and abandoned vehicles from our roads.  With more and more evidence suggesting that uninsured, untaxed and abandoned vehicles are used in crimes, including crimes involving violence, the importance of removing them from public roads increases. The responsibility for removing such vehicles now includes local authorities, many of who in turn are retaining specialist companies to identify, impound and if necessary scrap cars falling into these categories.

With a reputation as one of the UK’s leading vehicle disposal and recycling agents Redcorn Limited deals with untaxed, illegally parked and abandoned vehicles (ELV’s).

From their authorised vehicle Treatment Facility in Tottenham, North London, Redcorn disposes of over 40,000 cars a year for 10 local authorities in England including Barnet, Enfield and Waltham Forest.

Identifying untaxed vehicles on the roads has historically been time consuming and error prone, restricting the efficiency of Redcorn\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s operation. But when Redcorn started talking to QRO Solutions it became clear that the tables could easily by turned.

Redcorn has introduced a fleet of three Ford Transit vans equipped with QRO\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s mobile ANPR technology for 24 hour operation. With this new resource and building on their close working relationship with the DVLA, police and local authorities the Redcorn team have improved the speed and efficiency with which they are able to identify and susequently deal with untaxed vehicles on public roads.

Contracts Manager for Redcorn, Richard Reynolds, told ANPR News that one vehicle fitted with a QRO 4 camera ANPR system can scan 4,000 parked vehicles in one hour. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'We are delighted with the productivity increase that we have achieved. Previously one spotter on a motor-cycle scanned an average of 1,000 vehicles per hour. The introduction of ANPR technology has increased our productivity by 75%.\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'We have also seen a 20% improvement in the consistency of our results. The human concentration needed to scan vehicles can not easily be maintained for prolonged periods of time resulting in significant numbers of untaxed vehicles failing to be identified.\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'

Mr Reynolds went on to tell ANPR News \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'Our plan for growth over the next 12 months has increased significantly. With our improved resource efficiency we are now able, and aiming, to double the number of local authorities we provide services for.\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'In addition to our growth in capacity the QRO system enables us to diversify the service we offer into areas that our clients require. More specifically we are now able to identify and take action to remove vehicles with fraudulent tax discs from our roads, a service we were not able to offer before. We are also now able to identify persistent parking fine evaders from a database provided by local authority customers.\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'

Stuart Bunker, the South East Area Compound Manager for Redcorn, who works closely with their ANPR system said, \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'The QRO system is very easy to use, the user interface is so intuitive a child could use it.\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'The ANPR system is working effectively for us and we are as happy with it as we are with the service we have received from QRO Solutions.  Many suppliers promise high levels of after sales Customer Care but not all manage to deliver. I’m delighted that QRO have been available to answer any questions we have had, and coach us through training and implementation.\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'
