Policing such a massive event demands months of
planning by Staffordshire Police, who work closely with the organisers
year-round. As part of the security and crime prevention aspect of the overall
operation, the force approached QRO Solutions to provide Automatic Number Plate
Recognition (ANPR) technology. The challenge was to create a system to monitor
and record traffic entering and leaving the site in order to release the Roads Policing
Officers and vehicles previously allocated to this role to other operational
tasks.
To achieve this objective, the QRO team installed
numerous QRO Deploy-IT ANPR units, positioned overtly on the event perimeter to
monitor key entry points. The Deploy-IT units captured number plate details of
vehicles travelling in and out of the site, and transmitted the data via secure
GPRS technology to the on-site police control room.
The number plate data was then used in real time for
immediate identification and matching against pre-set criteria, as well as recorded
for potential use in post-event investigations.
ANPR has already proved a great success in
Staffordshire in disrupting criminal activity and catching offenders, including
many involved in drug-related crime. Staffordshire Police and QRO Solutions
have worked together over a number of years, using ANPR technologies to meet a
wide spectrum of operational policing requirements. In the contracting of QRO
Solutions to supply and install Deploy-IT ANPR systems at the V Festival, their
crime-fighting partnership continues.
Deploy-IT ANPR systems provide a fast and easy ANPR
deployment at short-term events. Their robust, consistent and reliable
performance, throughout the changeable and challenging English weather
conditions, gain noticeable crime reduction results.
The team at QRO are delighted that the Deploy-IT
units again worked seamlessly as part of the Staffordshire force’s overall
security strategy to reduce crime and make the event safer for all who attend.
